Written Work, Honest Scope
Aspen Ledger is a Petaling Jaya–based operational risk advisory practice. We help Malaysian SMEs write down what they already know — and organise what they haven't yet put on paper.
← Back to HomeHow the Practice Came Together
Aspen Ledger started from a simple observation: many Malaysian SMEs had been through operational disruptions — a sudden staff departure, a supplier going quiet, a premises issue — and had no written record of how the business was supposed to respond. The knowledge existed in people's heads. The documentation did not.
The practice was set up to address that gap. Not through lengthy compliance exercises or expensive consulting frameworks, but through short, well-scoped engagements that produce something a business can keep and use. A six-page map. A plain-language continuity note. A written monthly review.
Based at Mutiara Damansara in Petaling Jaya, we work primarily with SMEs in the Klang Valley and wider Selangor. The businesses we work with are typically owner-managed or led by a small senior team, and they find value in having an outside perspective put to paper.
What We Are Here to Do
"Operational knowledge that exists only in people's memories is operational knowledge that can walk out the door."
The mission is to help Malaysian businesses move important operational knowledge from memory into writing — in a form that is clear, current, and actually used.
We are not here to replace licensed advisers. Insurance, legal, and financial matters sit with their respective professionals. Our work is to document the operational risk picture and maintain that documentation over time.

How We Work
These are the principles that govern each engagement — from how we scope work to how we deliver and communicate.
Written-Only Deliverables
Every engagement ends with a document the client keeps. Verbal debriefs and slide presentations are not our format — we write things down.
Defined Scope Before Start
Scope is agreed in writing before any billable work begins. Clients know exactly what they will receive, in what format, and by when.
Clear Practice Boundaries
We practise operational consulting. We do not offer licensed insurance, legal, or financial advice. We work alongside your other professional advisers, not in place of them.
Client Confidentiality
All information shared during engagements is treated as confidential. We do not disclose client identities or business details without written permission.
Revision Without Argument
Within the agreed scope, written deliverables include one round of client feedback and revision. Getting the document right matters more than moving quickly.
Transparent Pricing
Engagement fees are quoted in full before work begins, denominated in Malaysian Ringgit. No hidden costs, no unexpected additions to scope.
Operational Risk Advisory for Malaysian Businesses
Most Malaysian SMEs hold their operational knowledge informally — in the working memory of long-serving staff, in undocumented routines, in arrangements with suppliers that have never been written down. This works until it doesn't. When a key person leaves, when a supplier becomes unavailable, when the company needs to demonstrate its operational competence to a bank or a larger client, the absence of written documentation becomes a practical problem.
Aspen Ledger addresses this through brief, well-defined advisory engagements. The Risk Map Note is a starting point: two to three hours with your operations and finance-administration leads, followed by a six-page written map of the main operational dependencies and potential disruptions. It is a descriptive document, not a prescribed action plan — but clients consistently report that the act of producing it surfaces conversations that should have happened earlier.
The Business Continuity Note Workshop takes the process further: three weeks, two facilitated sessions, and a plain-language reference document covering the main "what would we do if" scenarios across your four key exposure areas — people, premises, suppliers, and information. This is not a formal business continuity plan in the regulatory sense. It is a practical document your team can read and act on.
For businesses that want ongoing attention to their operational risk documentation, the Stewardship Retainer provides a nine-month advisory relationship. Monthly written reviews, fortnightly advisory calls, and a quarterly in-person workshop keep the documentation current and ensure that material changes to the business are reflected in the written record. The retainer is designed for firms that already have an internal operations or risk lead — we complement their work, not replace it.
